Bob Vokey didn’t always dream of being the ultimate wedge master. But from the moment he raised his hand and said, “I’ll give it a go,” he began honing his craft with unwavering dedication. Over decades his obsession has only grown, guided by instinct and hours at the wheel. Anyone can manufacture a wedge, but it takes a master to turn a piece of high-performance technology into an instrument of creative control. For Bob Vokey, this is the grind without end.

GRINDS

F GRIND: ALL PURPOSE GRIND FOR FULL WEDGE SHOTS

The F grind is an all-purpose grind particularly suited for full shots and shots hit with a square face. Ideal for players who prefer a traditional wedge sole. The F grind is the most played sand wedge on Tour.

:08 – For players preferring a full sole for full shots.

M GRIND: MULTI-PURPOSE GRIND FOR VERSATILITY

The M Grind, Vokey’s favorite, is designed for players that like to rotate the club face open and closed to manufacture shots around the green. Ideal for players with a shallower, more sweeping swing type who play shots from a variety of clubface positions.

:08 – For players who like to manufacture shots around the green.

S GRIND: NARROW AND VERSATILE

The S Grind features a full sole that has been narrowed by a trailing edge grind, giving it a faster feel through the turf. This grind is best for neutral to firm conditions and for players that like to control loft with their hands ahead or behind the ball.

:08 – For players who prefer square faced shots with a simple technique

D GRIND: THE PLAYER’S HIGH BOUNCE WEDGE

The D grind blends versatility from a heel, toe, and trailing edge grind and forgiveness with its high measured bounce. The D Grind is ideal for players with a steeper angle of attack who play shots from a variety of clubface positions.

:08 - For players with a steeper angle of attack.

L GRIND: MAXIMUM VERSATILITY

The L Grind is the lowest bounce option in the mix. The heel, toe, and trailing edge relief allow for maximum greenside versatility. This club is perfect for firm conditions and designed for precise players who have complete control at impact, allowing for maximum shot-making versatility.

K GRIND: THE ULTIMATE IN SOFT CONDITIONS

The K Grind is the highest bounce wedge in the lineup and is the ultimate bunker club. A wide, full sole wedge with enhanced camber, the K Grind is forgiving from a variety of softer sand and turf conditions.

:08 - For players requiring forgiveness in a wide, full sole.

SUPERIOR HANDCRAFTED TECHNOLOGY

Great wedge play comes from shot versatility, distance control and spin. The materials and structure of SM9 wedges represent our most technologically advanced design in all three areas, tuned for precise contact, lower flight and higher spin.

ULTIMATE SHOT VERSATILITY

Your swing is unique and requires a unique wedge. Finding the right grind for your swing type will provide you flawless contact, so you can be prepared to hit every kind of wedge shot in all conditions. For every shot, every lie, every course, there’s a grind fit for your swing.

PRECISE DISTANCE & TRAJECTORY CONTROL

The best of both worlds. SM9 goes to new heights, taking the forward centre of gravity (CG) and raising it even further, promoting a more controlled ball flight and solid contact. Hit it closer more often.

MAXIMUM SPIN / NOTHING SPINS LIKE A VOKEY

SM9’s new grooves are cut to the edge to maximise spin. Each Vokey wedge is 100% inspected for utmost quality and performance, and a localised heat treatment is applied to the impact area to double the durability of the groove.

SM9 TECHNOLOGY

CHOOSE CLOSER

“Wedge play is simple, it’s about proximity to the hole. With SM9 wedges, you’re going to hit it closer to the hole, more often.” - Bob Vokey

TOUR-PROVEN GRINDS

For every shot, every lie, every course, there’s a grind fit for your swing. Finding the right grind to match your swing and playing conditions will give you the best turf interaction, contact and shot performance. Master Craftsman Bob Vokey has spent decades crafting, developing and improving his tour proven grinds to fit players of all levels.

Anyone can manufacture a wedge, but it takes a master to turn a piece of high-performance technology into an instrument of creative control. Bob’s six tour-proven grinds are designed to offer maximum creativity, versatility and consistency, all meticulously developed through years of working with the best players in the world.

PROGRESSIVE CENTRE OF GRAVITY

SM9 features a progressive centre of gravity (CG) throughout the lofts, which optimises ball flight, accuracy and forgiveness. Using tapered top lines and varied hosel lengths, the Vokey R&D team has raised the height of the CG in the higher lofts, which promotes a lower, more controlled flight.

The CG is also forward of the face, resulting in increased MOI, exceptional feel and a club face that simply wants to square up at impact.

SPIN MILLED GROOVES

SM9’s patented Spin Milled grooves are meticulously engineered through a new cutting process to maximize spin and durability. The process starts by cutting the face perfectly flat with a high-speed saw. Then every groove is individually cut based on loft and finish; low lofts (46°-54°) are designed with narrower, deeper grooves, while higher lofts (56°-62°) have wider, shallower grooves.

Micro-grooves are individually cut in between grooves, which maximise spin on partial shots. A proprietary heat treatment is applied to the impact area which doubles the durability of the groove without impacting feel, making it the most durable groove in golf. The process is only complete when every Vokey wedge is 100% inspected for utmost quality and performance.

TOUR-PROVEN SOLE GRIND OPTIONS

The ultimate in optionality, SM9 continues to feature the most complete lineup of grind, bounce and loft options, allowing for more creativity and consistency while giving players of any level the ability to create multiple shots into and around the green.

· Developed through decades of work with the best shot makers in the game, Vokey’s six Tour-proven sole grinds – F, S, M, K, L and D – allow golfers of all skill levels to be precisely fit for their swing type (steep, neutral, shallow), shot making style (sweeper, digger) and course conditions (firm, neutral, soft).

FORWARD CENTRE OF GRAVITY PROGRESSION

Improving upon the groundbreaking Progressive Centre of Gravity (CG) design concept originally introduced with the Vokey Design SM8, the new SM9 pushes the envelope again - with even more innovation.

· The new SM9 maintains the innovative forward CG – a position that actually hovers in front of the wedge face - to produce a solid feeling wedge that squares up at impact for more consistent results.

· The CG has been raised vertically by adding weight to the topline design, where a tapered pad at the back of the toe helps align the CG properly without being visible from the playing position.

· Progressive hosel lengths are also used to help raise the CG in the higher lofts, particularly 58°-62°.

· The result is improved distance and trajectory control with increased stability for more consistent results.

NEW PATENTED SPIN MILLED PROCESS FOR MAXIMUM SPIN

A new Spin Milled cutting process in the SM9 models – which includes tightening our allowable tolerances - produces consistently sharper grooves wedge after wedge, resulting in higher, more consistent spin rates.

· Spin Milled Grooves are the Gold Standard in groove cutting precision - meticulously engineered and cut to the edge to maximise spin and shot control. Each Vokey wedge head is 100% inspected for utmost quality and performance.

· Micro-grooves are individually cut in between grooves, which maximises spin on partial shots.

·  A proprietary heat treatment is applied to the impact area to double the durability of the groove without impacting feel – making it the most durable groove in golf.

· Each groove is individually cut based on loft and finish with the lower lofts (46°-54°) designed with narrower, deeper grooves and higher lofts (56°-62°) with wider, shallower grooves.

SHARPEN YOUR SHOTMAKING

For every shot, every lie, every course, there’s a grind fit for your swing. The wedge fitting process is a thorough three-step process:

1. GAP FITTING

Determine the proper lofts to gap fit from your irons to your highest lofted wedge. Vokey recommends 4°-6° of loft separation between wedges. This results in more 'stock' swings, producing better results.

2. GRIND AND BOUNCE FITTING

Once the gap fitting is complete, hit all the grinds within the prescribed loft side by side with a focus on swing type (Digger/Sweeper) and course condition (Firm/Soft). This first bounce and grind test is for full swings.

3. GREENSIDE FITTING

Each wedge must have a purpose, and the variety of shots required greenside (bunkers, rough, tight lies, flop shots, bump & run, etc.) create the need for wedges that can execute multiple shots. Choose wedges that complement one another and are capable of unique shots.

Vokey likes to recommend a higher bounce sand wedge and a lower bounce lob wedge as a general thought. This prepares a player for multiple shots and conditions.
